Our career workshops for summer 2024
These workshops are aimed at teenagers who want to get into work and plan for their career. It helps those who may be:
- Looking for a summer job
- Don't know which career path to follow
- Don't know how to write a successful job application
- Are worried about succeeding in interviews
- Are lacking in confidence and need more self-belief to go forward into the world of work
The programme is made up of four 90-minute workshops, delivered face-to-face to a small group and in a classroom setting. You don't have to do all four - you choose which are most useful for you.

Workshop 1 - Getting a summer job
This workshop covers everything you will need to get your summer job.
- Finding out what you want to do
- Where to look for a summer job
- How to promote yourself
- How to negotiate your pay
- Feeling confident at work
- Finalising your action plan
Workshop 2 - Building career capital
We need skills and experience to succeed in getting interesting, well-paid work. In this workshop we discover how you make deposits into your skills bank:
- What is career capital?
- How to collect evidence of your skills
- How to gain valuable work experience
- How to present your evidence in job applications
Workshop 3 - Successful CVs and job applications
You have to secure the job interview first. So today we cover:
- Your online profile
- How to create a CV that stands out
- How to write a job application that gets you the interview
Workshop 4 - Getting job offers
In order to get offered a job you have to ensure you are the best at the interview. In our final workshop we look at:
- How to prepare for an interview
- The best technique to answering questions without fear
- What to do on the day of the interview
- What to do during the interview
- What to do immediately after the interview
